KL-YES Alumna Nur-Hafeiza Jannah Imam Abinal (Batch 2014-2015)
Class Valedictorian Speech
“It has been six years ago when I participated the Kennedy Lugar-Youth Exchange Study 2014-2015 Program. I was only 17 year old introvert teenager then when I was chosen among the finalists of Batch 11. During those times, I was not just as outgoing. I was the definition of socially awkward. Yet, within me, I had that strong guts and determination to be part of it. And I did it. My exchange year abroad was way more fun and exciting than I was expecting. I was hosted by a loving, kind and very welcoming American Family from San Antonio, Texas, USA, the Enyeart Family. They treated me like their own. They welcomed me with an open arms regardless of my faith and race. Never had I’ve been felt alone during my stay in their humble home. It was like a home away from home. I was enrolled at Earl Warren Highschool San Antonio, Texas. There I was able to ace and excel in my academics. I had been a member of National Honor Society based on scholarship, leadership, service and character. I had received the Student Community Service Award for having an outstanding participation in community service with Ayusa International and recipient of the “W” Award for academic excellence during the inter- highschool program.
With all these achievements I have, I am encouraging my fellow AFS students and those who are planning to join this program to never hesitate follow your dream. Know that success is really finding your love, being yourself, and believing in yourself. Embrace the trials and flaws in life because it is God’s way of molding you into best version of yourselves. And that whatever you want to dream of, own it because it’s your stuff, it’s your dream, and you created it and made it happened with God’s mercy. Your AFS family will always be there to make everything possible.
I couldn’t have made it this far without my AFS family. You gave me the courage to step out of my shell as the shy girl I was once, a shy girl with a big dream. You gave me the opportunity and developed my capabilities and strength. You let me live my dream for real. You had instilled in me the self-confidence needed to reach for my dreams. You had been my stepping stone for my betterment. Sirs and Ma’ams, I offer you my whole hearted admiration and deepest gratitude.
The plethora of my achievements would not have been possible without the help, support, and love of my wonderful “Mame” and Daddy, for letting me be, but always under their supervision and guidance. Thank you for the trust and living it all to Allah’s will in every endeavors I take. Thank you for not clipping my wings, for letting me soar higher. To my grandparents, siblings, cousins, aunties, uncles and friends for being my strongest support system. To my College Professors, to Sir Prof. Alcazar P. Maongco CPA, for believing in me and Mindanao State University —Main College of Business Administration and Accountancy family and my batch Premium for making my college journey full of fun, twists, learning, wisdom, morality, and integrity. The five years of memories are all worth remembering.
To my beloved Alma Mater, Mindanao State University —Main, karangalan ko pong mapabilang sa mga libo-libong estudyante na inyong hinubog, ginabayan at libreng pinag-aral ng de kalidad na edukasyon. Ang aking pagpupugay po, aming dakilang Pamantasan! I commit to vow that wherever I go and whatever I’ll do, I’ll bring with me the true spirit and honor of being an MSUan that you could always be proud of.
And above all, Shukran Ya Allah, The Lord of Heavens and Universe, The Creator of everything. None of this would have been possible if without Your mercy and compassion. My success can only come from You. Again Congratulations, Class of 2020. The Class of True Warriors. All Praise be to God.”
