AFS Philippines’ Adult (18+) Programs is starting to make its way to become one of the sought-after organization that promotes volunteerism, global education and intercultural learning through various programs for young adults, professionals, and educators. By making so, we are partnering with like-minded organizations in the Philippines as well as in other Non-AFS countries. One of these partner organizations who recently partnered with us in the Intervention Center for Autism and Related Exceptionalities or commonly known as ICARE located in Cagayan De Oro City, Mindanao.
This coming March 15 until August 16, ICARE will start to host our foreign volunteer from Brazil who has a big heart for children. With the desire of helping children with special needs, Mr. Renato Tangonan, together with his wife, Lawyer Isah Echem-Tangonan started ICARE last September 2013 in their own residence in Xavier Heights Subdivision. After six months of operation, they grew up to twenty kids and moved to a bigger location in Nazareth. They cater children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Global Development delays, down syndrome, learning disabilities and much more providing them an efficient and effective quality therapy and educational services using the scientific procedures of Applied Behavior Analysis.
In line with the organization’s philosophy to make a difference in the world through supporting and educating children in spite their differences, AFS Philippines showed the intention to collaborate by placing foreign volunteers in the center to help and assist in office work as well as handling the kids hoping that this will make a good start and will advocate both organizations’ core values as well as the missions through volunteerism, global education and intercultural learning.
AFS Philippines is continuously collaborating with like-minded organizations in order to reach its goals and impact for the vision 2020. If you think your advocacy and ideals are aligned with us, we are inviting you to take part and join our growing community of active global citizens and peace-builders.
